The Learning Health System for Spinal Cord Injury (LHS-SCI)

The Learning Health System for Spinal Cord Injury (LHS-SCI)

The Learning Health System for Spinal Cord Injury (LHS-SCI) is a collaborative initiative led by the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) and the International Society for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM).

It was established to put into practice the recommendations of the International Perspectives on Spinal Cord Injury (IPSCI) report.

LHS-SCI is committed to continuously improving the lives of people living with spinal cord injury (SCI) through a global, evidence-based, and rights-informed approach to research and policy. Researchers and stakeholders from participating countries collaborate, share experiences, and learn from each other’s successes to build capacity for shaping more effective policies, services, and care.

The system is built around three interlinked programs, each designed to address key gaps between what is being done, what can be done, and what should be done, based on:

  • Generating evidence: International SCI (InSCI) Community Survey

  • Implementation: National stakeholder dialogs and policy briefs

  • Capacity building: Policy and research capacity programs
